Silkeborg is a natural city!

Silkeborg is located approximately right in the middle of Jutland which is the main island that shapes Denmark. Silkeborg is the centre of what most Danes consider to be the prettiest region of Denmark.
The landscape in Denmark is mainly quite flat with many fields but Silkeborg is positioned in the hilliest area of Denmark. It is also an area rich in forests and there are many marked routes for walking, running and biking which makes it easy to enjoy the nature. Silkeborg is also known for its many lakes that decorate the landscape. Himmelbjerget is probably the most known trademark in Silkeborg and from the top of this hill there is a beautiful view of the forests, lakes and the hilly lay of the land all together.

A foreigner's view on Silkeborg

Silkeborg is a city with many things to offer. Both to Danes, but also to foreigners who might like to be future citizens. 
There are already numerous people from around the world living in Silkeborg. At Silkeborg Gymnasium there are 11 exchange students from countries worldwide. One of these students is 16-year-old Amelia from New Zealand, who has agreed to do an interview on her perspective of Silkeborg and the advantages and disadvantages of living in this city.
When she decided she wanted to go abroad for a year, her priority was to go to one of the Scandinavian countries of which Denmark was her first choice. She had done some research on Denmark and liked the urban culture mixed with the many fields and the nature that creates the rural surroundings.
She only knew about Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, which therefore was the city she hoped to move to. Yet after living in Silkeborg for 2 months she realized that Silkeborg is quite right for foreigners. “Silkeborg is neither too big nor too small of a city. It is perfect.” – quotation Amelia. She also mentions that she enjoys living in a city where there is life, but without it being completely crowded and stressful like the big cities are.
There are plenty of free time activities offered and if there is a need or a desire to experience even more, Amelia recommends visiting Aarhus which is the second biggest city in Denmark and only distances about 45 km from Silkerborg.
She describes Silkeborg as a beautiful and peaceful place and says that the people are lovely and that she feels very welcome. She considers Silkeborg to be the best place for foreigners in Denmark.

Work in Silkeborg

In Silkeborg we have a jobcenter, where you can go if you seek a job. Here you will get guidance in how to get a job, and is it also the place you can search for unemployment benefits. In Aarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark, only half an hour away, have a jobcenter too. Here specialists in international recruitment assist job seekers and companies looking to hire.

In Silkeborg we are building a new freeway, and with that come over 1.000 of new jobs. Near the freeway, there will be a growing economic life.  If you want to start a new business, there are plenty of possibilities of doing that in Silkeborg. For example you can even now get a hold of a site for your new business near the freeway.

In Silkeborg we have an ambitious work policy. Before 2020, according to the plan, there will be 3.000 new jobs in Silkeborg. The jobs will be in the main fields:

Th Langs and Kornmod Realskole

Th Langs today.

Th Langs is one of the most known schools in Silkeborg. it is together with Kornmod Realskole a privatschool. It was grounded in 1882 by Theodora Lang and is then around 125 years old. Back when Mrs. Lang grounded the school, there was very few means, and the students had to bring their own chair. You could then see how rich the students Family were, by looking at how fine their chair was.

Silkeborg Gymnasium

Silkeborg Gymnasium is, with around 1600 students, the biggest gymnasium in Denmark. It is placed at the Northern part of Silkeborg, where you got  a lot of bus oppotunities, from the train station directly to the school. With its 30 different study directions, there are many opportunities for you to find exactly the directions that YOU like! Together with the many directions, Silkeborg Gymnasium can offer a lot of different languages, such as: French, German, Chineese, Spanish and Latin. The many languages makes the school really internation focused, wich makes it really easy as an Exchange student on Silkeborg Gymnasium.
